The Mug Project

Use a mug. Reduce Waste. Get a discount! ®

Hi All! Glad to be a part of this e-community.

Would love input, suggestions, advice... My church is a coffee-drinking people. We're also trying to do things in an environmentally-conscious way. We're offering fair-trade coffee, but still have the standard stryofoam cups. In addition to asking folks to bring their own mugs (which some do, but not a ton, and we always have many visitors), does anyone have any ideas as to what we can provide other than styrofoam? Maybe plastic of some sort, with a recycling bin nearby? Thanks much!

Hey Admo,

I given your questions some thought and here is what I came up with:

Incorporate "Mug Show and Tell" as apart of a before or after social function. Ask people to bring their favorite mug and during coffee they could tell each other about how they got their mug and what it means to them. This would encourage long-term participation. Put this on your church sign in the front. Take a picture and share it here!

For those who don't/forget to bring mugs I would suggest the following. Ask you congregation to bring unwanted mugs to church to be used and ask volunteers to take them home and what them and bring them back next Sunday. This is if you don't have a dish washer of course.

Anyone else have ideas for Admo?

Hope this helps!

Great ideas, and thank you! I passed them along to our pastor on staff to start a conversation about how to implement some of these things. I'll let you know what we come up with.

Adam
