Happy to Earth Day Eve to you all! That’s right, the big day is tomorrow and the big question is – how are YOU going to commemorate this important day? Well, let me start by telling you about what two Boston-based companies are doing…
One local law firm is having a competition to see who can bring the most exotic mug as possible. Employees will have their “mug shot” taken and a committee will award eco-friendly prizes for the most unique mugs. The idea is that participants will continue to use their mugs around the office long after the contest is over.
In other news, a local engineering firm is sending an email to over 1500 staff promoting both The Mug Project and Earth Day. In addition, they’ll be raffling off 100 mugs, each equipped with an “Ask me about my mug” sticker.
While these are worthy examples, we’d like to hear from you. What are you all doing for Earth Day? Please log onto
www.mugproject.com and add to the forum entitled “How are YOU celebrating Earth Day?? We’d love to hear from you!!
Still don’t know what you’re going to do? Here are a few simple ways to reduce waste that won’t take a lot of time and won’t drain your bank account…
1.) Give a mug – sure, you use a mug, but do your friends and family? How about the guy who sits next to you at work? Nothing says “Happy Earth Day” like the gift of a mug.
2.) Canvas grocery bags – buy yourself an Earth Day present! I’ll be honest, I didn’t use them until about two months ago. However, bringing your own grocery bags reduces unnecessary plastic waste, and it’s cheap! Most bags are only a dollar or two.
3.) E-statements – Do you find it unnecessary to receive an 8-page bank statement every month? Nearly every company from utility providers to financial institutions allow you to receive statements via email, and some will even pay you to switch. My cell phone company, Sprint, offered me $5 to switch!
As always, thank you all for being members of this network and for doing your part to reduce waste!!
HAPPY EARTH DAY!!!
