The other day I went to get a cup of coffee and as I walked out the door Kate said "Get me one too". When I got to City Feed I realized I only brought my mug. I choose to buy Kate a cup anyway fearing for my life If I did not bring her a cup of mornin' Joe. It did make me think though. I need to change my patterns and behavior. The good news is it's not hard to do. Next time guilt will kick in and make me remember to bring a mug for her too.
I thinks it's fantastic that you choose not to get coffee that one time. I not sure I would have made the same choice as i'm addicted but trust I will be prepared in the future.
Great idea about the containers. You can actually start a group for the containers here if you like. Go to the groups tab and simple choose "create a new group."
I have a regular ceramic mug that has a Farm Sanctuary logo on it which has been my office mug for many years and many jobs. It's an otherwise nondescript-looking mug, but just having the logo on there makes people ask occasionally what Farm Sanctuary is. It's been a great way to bring some awareness of animal welfare issues into not-particularly-animal-friendly work environments.
we take our stainless steel mugs all the time to starbucks, we get cup discount, i keep a supply of mugs in my car all the time, we have allot mugs that we get free at trade shows, at this one booth at PriMed conference that serves coffee lattes and serves them in a stainless steel mugs that you can keep, avoiding the paper. :)
I keep loosing my mugs. I lost one I got at REI that had a clip on handle at a convention center. I will not keep a space in my car. Thanks for the idea Zippywinds!

I tried to use a plastic mug I got at Canto 6 but it made the coffee taste like plastic. All the plastic mugs I have tried taste weird and I need something with a cover for the T. Anybody know of a good thermos cup with a lid that doesn't leak and that does not taste of plastic?

Stainless steel mugs are the way to go (look for stainless steel on the inside, regardless of the outside material). No strange aftertaste. I also use stainless steel water bottles and love them. Bottled water is about as bad as disposable coffee mugs and ridiculously overpriced.
I also often take a thermos of coffee to work to avoid having to pay a lot of money for something that's way cheaper to make at home and I ask for a "real" mug at coffee shops if I intend to have a cup of coffee or tea there.

Hi Laura,
you're right, quite a few coffee places don't offer the option (particularly chain stores), but many independent coffee shops will serve you coffee in a regular mug, such as 1369 in Cambridge. I make it a habit to ask, regardless of where I am - you never know.
